Decker, Helen Pingio:

Palmyra/Baldwinsville:  Formerly of Palmyra, Helen Pingio Decker of Baldwinsville, NY passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at the age of 97.  Helen was raised in Palmyra, NY by her parents, Anastas and Catherine (Vassios) Pingio.  She was predeceased by her husband William, sister Sophie Ziegler and brothers Paul Pingio (auto accident on Jeffrey Road, Palmyra at age 16) and Spirio Pingio.   She is survived by her three children; Kristine Maxwell of Watervliet, NY, Petersen (Marguerite) Decker of Grosse Pointe, Michigan and Mary Katherine (Michael) Kamfonas of Devon, Pennsylvania; six grandchildren, Katherine Maxwell, Anne (Ryan) Foster, Iain Decker, Petersen Decker, Jr., John Kamfonas and Grace Kamfonas; two great grandchildren, Gibbons Foster and Charles Foster; two nieces, Katherine (William) Cochrane and Carol (Lawrence) Faragher; two nephews, Paul (Diane) and Charles (Terri) Ziegler.

Helen will be remembered as a wonderful mother to her own three children, and also to the many children she taught over the years.  She valued each as an individual contributor to the world.  She grew up in Palmyra, NY where her parents owned and ran the Palmyra Hotel.  Helen was a graduate of SUNY Oswego where she obtained a degree in English and Education.  She taught school in the Glens Falls and Rochester areas before settling in with her husband in Baldwinsville where she went on to teach in the Phoenix Central School District.  Helen was an active member of the Theatre Guild, and The Parent Teachers Association of the Baldwinsville Central School District where her children attended.  Helen was also an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Baldwinsville where she served as a deacon and member of the choir.

Friends and family are invited to gather for a time of visitation on Saturday, April 4, 2015 from 10-11AM at the Falardeau Funeral Home, 93 Downer Street, Baldwinsville, NY.  A service will follow, at 11:30 at the First Presbeyterian Church, 64 Osego Street, Baldwinsville, NY.  Interment Riverview Cemetery, Baldwinsville, NY.  Online condolences may be left at www.murphyfuneralservices.com. ; Memorials in memory of Helen may be made to a charity of your choice.
